Ah...the immensly popular game of Quidditch. It has swept through the Wizarding World like fire. But where did it come from, you ask? Well here we go...

Quidditch was invented in 1256 A.D. by a wizard named Valerius Bluren. He wanted something exciting to bring together all the witches and wizards, for in his time, no one really got out and socialized.
At first, the game only had six players, three from each team. A "stopper" now known as the keeper, and two "whippers" (chasers). There was no seeker, there wasn't even a snitch. The game was played to one hundred, with each score worth ten points. There was only one goal at each end.
In 1512, beaters and bludgers were added to the game, as well as the third chaser. The first World Cup match was played in 1513. The winner was France.
Surprisingly enough, the seeker wasn't added until 1624. But the first World Cup with seekers was in 1627.
The modern Quidditch game was instituted in 1699. The rules have been relativly unchanged since then.

Players:

Chasers: Try to score points by shooting a quaffle into one of three rings assigned to the other team. There are three chasers on each team.

Beaters: The beaters use a bat-like club in order to deflect the bludgers away from their teammates and at the others. There are two beaters on each team.

Keeper: The keeper works as a goalie for the team's three elevated rings. There is one keeper per team.

Seeker: The seekers only responsibility is to find the golden snitch. There is one seeker per team.

Balls:

Quaffle: Almost like a soccer ball. When shot into one of the other team's three rings, the team earns ten points.

Bludger: There are two bludgers per game. These balls try to knock the players off their brooms. However, the bludger can be redirected by a beater.

Snitch: The snitch is a small golden ball that moves extremely fast around the field. If caught, the snitch is worth one hundred and fifty points. The game does not end until the snitch is caught.
